Starting prices below are for a 6" system on a standard single-story home. Every additional story adds pipe sections — typically two to four extra sections — which raises the total. A two-story through-the-roof install often runs $700–$900; a two-story through-the-wall can reach $1,000–$1,300 or more.

Cost Factors
What drives the total price?
1. Installation route
Through-the-wall systems cost more because they need a wall thimble, an insulated tee, wall brackets, and a longer vertical run on the exterior. Through-the-roof systems are the most straightforward and usually the lowest-cost option.
2. House height
Taller houses need more pipe sections. The 3-2-10 rule requires the chimney to extend at least 3 feet above the roof penetration and 2 feet above any structure within 10 feet. A two-story home may need several extra sections compared to a single-story cabin.
3. Diameter: 6" vs 8"
Most residential wood stoves use a 6" flue collar, making 6" the standard and most affordable option. Larger appliances or longer runs may require 8", which is priced higher. Always match the chimney diameter to your stove's collar size.
4. Elbows and offsets
If your route needs to navigate around framing or shift horizontally, you'll need elbow kits. These add $417–$429 per offset. Straight runs are always cheaper and draft better.
