Frequently asked questions

Do chimney fans actually work?

Yes, and they work where nothing else will. A chimney fan creates a controlled draft regardless of weather, building height, or flue temperature. It is the recommended fix when chimney heightening, cowl changes, or flue cleaning have not solved the problem.

Will it work on my chimney?

The Draftbooster fits round flues from 150 to 250 mm. If your flue is square or rectangular, an adapter plate handles it. If you are not sure, send us a photo of your chimney top and we will confirm the right size before you order.

Is it noisy?

No. At normal speed the motor is barely noticeable from inside the room. Outside, neighbours will not hear it over background noise.

How much electricity does it use?

About the same as a modest LED light. Power draw varies with speed setting, but most users see only a few pounds a year added to their bill.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. The Draftbooster is designed for DIY install. If you are comfortable on a ladder and can plug a cable into a socket, you can fit it. For very tall chimneys or shared roofs, a professional install is sensible.

Does it work without the fan running?

Yes. When the fan is off, air still passes freely through it. Your stove will draw normally on days when the natural draft is fine, and you only switch the fan on when you need a boost.

Will it stop downdrafts and smoke blowing back?

That is exactly what it is built for. Downdrafts caused by wind, neighbouring buildings, or unfavourable terrain are the most common reason people fit a chimney fan, and the Draftbooster solves it in nearly every case.

How long does it last?

The motor is rated for years of normal use. Stainless steel housing handles flue gases and weather. Most owners replace nothing for a decade or more.
